Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Child Dental Benefits Schedule

What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?

CDBS, or Child Dental Benefits Schedule, is a Medicare program that covers dental examinations, x-rays, cleanings, root canals, extractions, and other dental procedures for children. Depending on whether you qualify for specific payments, Medicare may cover some dental services for children. Orthodontic treatment and cosmetic dentistry, as well as hospital care, are not covered.

CDBS provides basic dental services to children between 2 and 17. Dental services are capped at $1,000 over two consecutive calendar years. The 2-year cap period begins when a child or teenager receives their first eligible dental service. Smiles in Currambine accepts CDBS payments for treatment. The $1,000 can be used all at once or over two years. Health fund payments and CDBS cannot be combined for the same treatment.

Treatments Covered by CDBS

A list of itemised codes has been developed to ensure that CDBS beneficiaries receive the best dental care. This list includes the following basic dental treatments:

  • Dental examinations
  • X-rays
  • Cleanings
  • Dental fillings
  • Fissuresealing
  • Tooth extractions
  • Root canal treatments

Please let us know if you would like to use CDBS when making an appointment at Smiles in Currambine. Make sure you know how close you are to the benefit cap, which can impact your benefit amount. Our dentist will confirm your child’s eligibility for benefits during your child’s appointment. We will also discuss the cost of each treatment and whether it is covered under CDBS. You will be asked to sign a consent form if you agree with the services and price.

You will receive a bill for payment after completing your dental treatment. A CDBS claim can be made using the Express Plus Medicare mobile app, your Medicare online account on myGov, or a Medicare Claim form that can be mailed or dropped off at a service centre. Once Medicare approves your claim, the benefit will be deposited into your bank account.
